Could Psychic Monkeys be our Missing Link?

       Several years ago, 2003 to be exact, a study was conducted at Duke University using rhesus monkeys to help develop neuroprosthetic limbs (robotic limbs that work from electromagnetic brain impulses). As part of the experiment, monkeys were taught to consciously control the movements of cursors and robotic arms using nothing more than feedback from a video screens and their thoughts. While scientists, who were largely focused on helping humans with paralysis, seemed pleased by the results of these experiments, little was mentioned about the psychokinetic monkeys. This seemed amazing, as monkeys were actually moving objects with their minds! I could not help wondering about the metaphysical implications. Were these a breed of special psychically gifted monkeys? Had scientists discovered some new psychokinetic hybrid monkeys, or are monkeys just naturally super psychics?

       As monkey metaphysics did not appear to be of much interest to this brilliant team of neurobiologist, I was left alone to ponder the connection. I mean just who are you going to ask about a psychic – monkey – mind – connection anyway? Imagine my surprise when I recently ran across an insightful little book entitled, ‘Your Monkey Mind Connection’ written by Jeanne Marie Antoinette, a woman who, ironically enough had written two previous books about her life as a clairvoyant. I simply could not resist asking about her thoughts regarding the implications of the psychic monkey phenomenon.

       Jeanne Marie, a petite soft-spoken woman smiled before thoughtfully answering. “I’m afraid they’re just ordinary monkeys doing what ordinary monkeys do, entertaining themselves by making things move.” The fact that they did this with their mind did not seem out of the ordinary to Miss Antoinette. Then again, what is ordinary in the eyes of an extraordinary clairvoyant? I decided to rephrase the question. “So, if real monkeys can move objects with their minds, what can our Monkey Minds do?”

      “More of the same,” she assured me. “A Monkey Mind’s job is simply to move things around up there. The Monkey Mind is literally the primal mover of our thoughts.  It’s all psychic in a way I suppose.” She paused for a moment searching for the right words. “All mental activity is psychic on some level. Psychic is nothing more than an energetic connection, like electricity. Your Monkey Mind can certainly use psychic energy to give you a jolt or two, but it’s only to get your attention. The Monkey Mind is only the animation, not the source.”

     According to Jeanne Marie, our Monkey Mind is a vital ‘mobilizing’ connection. In conclusion, the endless chatter of our Monkey Minds may well be the key to our creative inspiration, but the verdict is still out on real monkeys, even the psychically gifted ones. Could monkeys be the key to our missing psychic link? Who knows, perhaps it’s all in our Minds anyway, our Monkey Minds that is.
